DIY Piercing's Do's and Don'ts

DIY Piercing's Do's and Don'ts

On The Topic of DIY piercing's

Being as rebellious as I am I understand if you want to do something your gonna do it regardless of what anyone else says, so here's some do's and don't's of DIY piercing's.

Do NOT use a safety pin for your piercing's. The material it's made of isn't suitable to stay in the body to long and is most likely to rust and flake off where ever you have it staying in place of where real piercing jewelry should be. Besides this, for most piercing's it's not the right gauge. And when you use the wrong gauge for your piercing's it just makes getting the jewelry in a lot harder than it would be if you used the right equipment.

DO use piercing needles. And as shown in the picture above they come in various gauges. For example 16g-14g are often used for lip piercings, 13g-12g are standard for tongue piercing's, and 20g-18g are standard for regular nose piercings.

DO-This next step seem's obvious but some how most people don't do it. Please do some background research on the piercing(s) your thinking of getting. Why? So that you can see or get an idea about where proper placement should be and just so you can get an idea of how much of a risk your taking trying to do the piercing yourself.

DON'T-Everyone say's you shouldn't use a piercing gun, but no one's giving you the reason's why you shouldn't.

So here's some example's of what CAN go wrong, but may not happen all the time.

  • Most piercing's done by gun's have gotten infected due to the fact that other people's flesh and fluid's may be trapped in it, since piercing gun's can't be properly cleaned.
  • It can't be properly cleaned.
  • It causes quite a lot of trauma to the area pierced
  • Jewelry placed in the piercing gun often aren't long enough to accommodate swelling
DO- Make it your job to find jewelry that will be long enough to accommodate a new piercing that is going to swell.

This was the best DIY piercing video I could find on youtube. DIY Snake Bites. Most thing's were done correctly, except when it came to her washing her hand's then touching everything regardless.

DON'T- Share needles with your friend's or needles you just find. I know that's your friend but you don't know everything they do when their away from you, so for your own health and safety try to find a fresh piercing needle to do your piercing's with.
