Epipodius and his companion Alexander are venerated as Christian saints. Their feast day is April 22. Epipodius is venerated as the patron saint of bachelors, victims of betrayal and of torture.
Friday, April 22, 2011 also happens to be Good Friday, in which Christians around the world remember the execution of Jesus of Nazareth by crucifixion after he was betrayed by Judas Iscariot.
Here's where I now mention that April 22 is also Earth Day, and use my excellent writing skills to segue from Epipodius and Jesus to talk about how we "betray" and "torture" our planet when we pollute and squander the resources of our mother earth - or something like that.
