Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, has been named the national leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Her adoption was done at the National Executive Committee meeting of the party in Abuja, Thursday night.
The meeting also endorsed the candidature of President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2015 presidential election. President Jonathan is yet to announce his interest in the race. And he has not been endorsed by his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, although analysts believe his endorsement by his party is a foregone deal.
Bianca, Nigeria’s envoy to Spain is the widow of Chief Odumegwu Ojukwu, a former leader of the party.
The choice of Amb. Bianca Ojukwu as APGA national leader and President Jonathan’s endorsement were all part of seven-point communiqué issued at the end of the party’s NEC meeting.
The party, while commending the judgment of Abdulkadir Abdul-Kafarati of the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered on Wednesday January 15 2015 in a suit between Chief Maxi Okwu and others v s Chief Victor Umeh and others as inclusive and brilliant, said it would use the judgement to recover its soul , re-focus and rebrand itself in the near future.
It applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the release of 2015 electoral timetable and urged the commission to maintain the old practice of consulting political parties before taking major decisions on the conduct of the election.
The committee called for the inauguration of its Board of Trustees with initial 24 members that would be meeting in two weeks in line with the provisions of Article 10 and 11 sub(10) (3) of the party’s constitution to elect the Board’s chairman and secretary.
APGA’s National Chairman Chief Maxi Okwu explained that since the gang-up against President Jonathan is geared towards intimidating him not to run in 2015 and since APGA would be disadvantaged at the presidential poll , the party would give him all the necessary support to win the election, adding “If he seeks nomination at the 2015 election we will support him.”
