Health Effects, Risks & Dangers of Bluetooth Radiation
How Do Bluetooth Headsets Work?
All Bluetooth Headsets and Technologies emit wireless microwave radiation. Microwave frequencies have a short wavelength and a rapid rate of oscillation. This is what enables them to travel long distances carrying information without needing to be contained in a wire.
The short wavelength and rapid oscillation of microwave frequencies also make them adept at being able to penetrate living tissue down to a cellular level. This characteristic is what led Soviet Russia in the 1950's to utilize microwave frequencies for weapons. By beaming microwave radiation at the US Embassy in Russia, the Soviets were able to induce leukemia in several US ambassadors.
Microwave Radiation Exposure Dangers from Bluetooth:
Using any type of wireless technology is putting yourself in a field of microwave radiation. The effects of long term microwave radiation exposure upon the body have been documented in countless studies for decades.
Long-term exposure to microwave radiation has been linked to:
-headaches
-cancer
-leukemia
-brain tumors
-alzheimers
-autism
-ADD
-miscarriages
-birth defects
-autoimmune illnesses
-multiple sclerosis
-hair loss
-suicide
Microwave radiation(yes blue tooth is a microwave) has been shown to affect biological changes within the body. These biological changes happen on a cellular level and their effects can be passed on to offspring via genetic damage (DNA, RNA).
Using a Bluetooth Headset exposes the brain, the ears and the eyes to a strong field of microwave radiation.
Studies have linked Bluetooth Headset use to:
• blindness
• deafness
• brain tumors
• neck pain
• skin rashes
• headaches
Bluetooth Wireless Radiation vs Cell Phone Radiation:
Bluetooth Technology uses the same microwave radiation to transmit data as cell phones do to receive calls. The only difference is the range. A cell phone antenna picks up signals from cell phone towers and satellites, while a Bluetooth headset/technologies is receiving radiations from a few feet away.
WIKIPEDIA DEFINES BLUETOOTH AS “A PROPRIETARY OPEN WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY STANDARD FOR EXCHANGING DATA OVER SHORT DISTANCES”. WHICH BASICALLY MEANS IT’S A WIRELESS SYSTEM. BLUETOOTH TRANSMITS AT FREQUENCY LEVELS IN THE 2.4 GHZ BAND, THE SAME AS YOUR MICROWAVE OVEN. THAT MEANS WE ARE DEALING WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS OR EMFS – THAT ALONE SHOULD SEND SOME ALARM BELLS RINGING.
How Bluetooth Radiation Is Classified:
First a little reminder on the classification system for Bluetooth, because this is critical to minimizing your exposure to Bluetooth radiation:
Class 1 transmitters — are the most powerful and so emit the highest level of Bluetooth radiation. They can transmit up to 100 meters and have a peak transmission power of 100 mW (milliwatt)
Class 2 transmitters — are less powerful. They can transmit up to 10 meters and operate at 2.5 mW peak transmission power
Class 3 transmitters — are the least powerful and emit the lowest level of Bluetooth radiation. They operate in a range of less than 10 meters and have a peak transmission power of 1 mW
What Class of Earpiece should you buy to minimize your exposure to Bluetooth radiation?
If you are decided on using a Bluetooth earpiece then a class 3 transmitter will expose yourself to the lowest levels of Bluetooth radiation. However I did some research on make and models and I could find no information about Class 3 Bluetooth earpieces.
So we are left with making a choice between class 2 and class 3 earpieces. Obviously your preference, if you are wanting to minimize your exposure to Bluetooth radiation is to buy a class 3 Bluetooth earpiece.
STUDIES ON BLUETOOTH RADIATION?
Cell phone industry have done a very good job of making the science look inconclusive and confusing. Added to which there have been few studies done specifically on the issue of Bluetooth radiation. Bluetooth devises are poorly studied and regulated, no sar rating is required.
Bluetooth Radiation Is More Dangerous Than Cell Phone Radiation?
Absolutely, Your radiation exposure with a Bluetooth headset is the sum of cell phone radiation(turned on your belt or in your pocket) plus the Bluetooth radiation. So Bluetooth radiation in itself may be less dangerous than cell phone radiation but when you use a Bluetooth earpiece you are always exposing yourself to both Bluetooth radiation and cell phone radiation, a double wammy! Bluetooth radiation is particularly dangerous in so far as earpieces and headphones go because of the proximity to the head of these devices.
If you are using a Class 1 Bluetooth earpiece I think the dangers are very real. Firstly because Class 1 devices are 40 times more powerful than Class 2 devices. Secondly because when you use a Bluetooth earpiece device you are exposing yourself to an additional form of radiation compared to a cell phone. Your cell phone acts as a relay between the cell phone tower and your correspondent and your cell phone acts as another relay at the Bluetooth level between your cell phone and your Bluetooth earpiece.
ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES TO USING A BLUETOOTH HEADSET?
Besides just using a regular wired headset, yes, there are alternatives to using a Bluetooth headset:
1. You can use a radiation free airtube headset provided by emfrelief.net. These work much like a wired headset but there are no wires to conduct the radiation but air tubes conduct the sound. Obviously you don’t get the freedom of movement that you get with a wireless connection, and the sound quality on this particular model is excellent while reducing your exposure to EMFs.
2. Use a retro handset telephone. The length of the cord means you are still in close proximity to your cell phone so you will be absorbing some radiation. But at worst using this device is clearly much better than having the cell phone pressed against your ear.
CONCLUSION – HOW TO MINIMIZE BLUETOOTH RADIATION
Do not use a Bluetooth earpiece in a vehicle because there will be a Faraday Cage effect with the Bluetooth radiation similar to that with cell phone radiation where the radiation is trapped by the metal of car and continues to bounce around till you absorb it!
People should realize that Bluetooth devices that fit in or around the ear typically radiate at 0.23 watts per kilogram (W/Kg). Go into any AT&T wireless store and ask for the SAR on Bluetooth devices. Or check any SAR values website that shows cell phone SAR levels, and you’ll find the Bluetooth devices are actually worse than some of the low-SAR cell phones.
This level of 0.23 W/Kg is 10 to 100 times higher than the RF exposure levels shown to make the blood-brain barrier pathologically leaky, allowing toxins and toxic molecules to cross the BBB. This is reported by Salford, Persson, NIttby and Schirmacher among others – to cause neuron death at 0.012 to 0.002 W/Kg.
Multiple studies have reported that as short as a single, two-hour exposure to cell phone or blue tooth radiation will result in pathological leakage of the blood-brain barrier. The effect occurs immediately, and is still seen at 14 days and at 50 days post-exposure at only 0.012 W/Kg to 0.002 W/Kg. The lowest exposure SARs are worse than the higher SAR exposures (Nittby et al, 2009). These studies show neuron death (brain cells) at SARs of only 0.012 W/Kg. Bluetooth devices are worn for hours at a time, in some cases – all day long. So, it is reasonable to conclude that a device which radiates at a higher intensity than some cell phones are very risky in terms of of your accummilated exposures. So Bluetooth radiation may be equally as dangerous as cell phone radiation but when you use a Bluetooth earpiece you are always exposing yourself to both Bluetooth radiation and cell phone radiation since both devices must be turned on (emitting radiation) and your phone is usually on your belt. You are getting a double dose of microwave radiation!
