Tattoos help a person deal with their illness, because the ink is a symbol that the disease will not over power them. Also, tattoos encourage people suffering from their ailment to just face it head on and end their denial about it. The Healing Art Foundation in Bakersfield is a non-profit organization that helps people heal through tattoo art. How does art assist people? It is a way for survivors to express themselves when so much has been taken out of their control. Many people didn't welcome The Healing Art Foundation in the beginning. Tattoos were not embraced by everyone, but with the mainstream media airing shows like ""L.A. Ink"" there has been more acceptance for what the Foundation offers.
November is Diabetes Awareness and represented by a gray ribbon. On the diabetes website, there are stories of why moms and kids decided to get a diabetes symbol tattoo. On the Brent Shapiro Foundation for Drug Awareness website, you can read a story about a brother and sister, who got wrist tattoos. The brother's wrist tattoo is a remembrance of his sister and a symbol for drug awareness.
Whether the ribbon tattoo is permanent or temporary, it is popular to show your support for whatever cause you are passionate about. Getting an awareness tattoo is a way to tell the world that cancer or HIV/AIDS or diabetes will not control your life. Another great reason to sport ribbon tattoo art, it is a way to make many aware of brain disorders, sex trafficking, domestic violence and many other causes."
