A bizzare occurrence took place in Ajegunle area of Lagos State yesterday, when a bird that was flying in the sky, fell and transformed into an old woman.
Those who witnessed the incident which occurred on Ojo Road expressed shock at the development.
A witness who only gave his name as Emeka narrated that he was sitting in front of a compound with his lover when they saw three black birds in the air flying as if they were playing and he jocularly told his lover, Kemi that two of the birds could be male, fighting over the only female one. He said barely had they finished laughing over the joke when one of the birds fell and landed on a moving pick-up van belonging to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, while the rest flew away.
Emeka said the bird then, fell on the floor and suddenly turned into an old woman, with blood gushing out of her forehead, as she rolled on the road.
He said a large crowd was attracted to the scene and the woman confessed to being a witch from Ibadan and that she came for a meeting in Lagos and was going back when the incident occurred.
The source said the woman told the bewildered crowd that they missed their way which was why they were hovering in the air till daybreak, adding that she fell because of tiredness.
LEADERSHIP gathered that some residents of the area were in the process of meting out jungle justice to the woman but were prevented by the traditional ruler of Layeni Community, Bale Rafiu Olayeni.
Olayeni told LEADERSHIP that he called the divisional police officer of Layeni police station, CSP Chijioke Ndu and he swiftly drafted anti- robbery policemen to the scene and they rescued the woman and conveyed her in a patrol vehicle to the station. Hundreds of spectators were said to have followed them to the station.
When LEADERSHIP visited the police station, policemen had a hard time controlling the crowd that thronged there to catch a glimpse of the woman.
A police sergeant who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the DPO had called for reinforcement and police teams from Ajegunle and Amukoko divisions were on their way to help in dispersing the crowd.
Ndu however declined comments on the matter and asked LEADERSHIP to leave, when he was asked to confirm the development, saying, “please no news here. I have transferred the case to the State Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja”.
