The Portuguese defender was less than impressed with his former boss' recent remarks and claims he is happier with life under Carlo Ancelotti
Pepe has hit back at former coach Jose Mourinho after the Chelsea manager claimed Real Madrid players "spent too much time looking in the mirror".
The 51-year-old's three-year spell in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu came to an end last term following their shock loss to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey.
He took the opportunity to take a snipe at his old players last week, but the Portugal international is refusing to take his compatriot's comments to heart.
"It's just like Mou to be the only human being that gets up in the morning and doesn't look at himself in the mirror," he told Marca.
"We won't be drawn in by it. It's part of day-to-day life and it hasn't affected us at all. It's quite normal for us to look after our image in order to create a good impression for the club we play for, namely Real Madrid.
"When we are in front of the cameras, in the media, etc, I think this is perfectly acceptable."
Mourinho dropped club captain Iker Casillas thanks to the performances of Diego Lopez and Pepe has confirmed that he defended his skipper.
"I didn't stand up for Iker just for being Iker Casillas, but because he is a team-mate of mine and for everything he has done for Real Madrid," he added.
Mourinho was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti last summer and Pepe is delighted with the effect that the Italian has had on the entire squad.
"Ancelotti has brought calm to the team. He was a player himself and knows where he's come from. He has settled things down and given us the tranquility we need to play well.
"I am very happy playing under him because he is close to the players and understands their needs."
