Star Wars and Bad Science

As a huge Star Wars fan, I both love and hate this:

Brian Malow refers to the justification of Han Solo's use of the word "parsecs" as "retcon," which is short for "retroactive continuity." Reminds me of a phrase I'm fond of using: retroactive reasoning.

Read the Wookieepedia entry on the Kessel Run; the "Parsec Apologetic" is now considered canon. Is it a big deal? Not really. It is, after all, a work of fiction. Use all the retcon you want. But when religionists who claim their religion is an accurate presentation of reality use retcon to support their doctrines or explain away mistakes in their preferred holy book, well... that's a different story altogether.
